Power and Grid loss and Reduction Action Plans in Africa Hybrid Training

Power and Grid loss and Reduction Action Plans in Africa Hybrid Training

In March, the African Energy Commission hosted a continental training in Lusaka focused on electricity distribution grid loss reduction. The programme brought together over 50 experts from more than 20 African Union Member States.

Electricity losses across Africa often exceed 20%, significantly impacting energy availability and utility performance. These losses stem from both technical inefficiencies and non-technical challenges such as theft and metering inaccuracies.

The training introduced AFREC’s continental handbook and provided practical skills in loss assessment, data analysis, and grid modelling. It emphasised energy efficiency as a critical tool for increasing available power without major infrastructure investments.
