The 2026–2031 strategy for the improvement and harmonization of energy statistics in Africa

Africa faces considerable challenges in ensuring access to clean, sustainable, and reliable energy. Accurate and comprehensive energy statistics are indispensable
to overcoming these challenges and to fostering  sustainable economic and social development. The African Energy Commission (AFREC) has established a robust foundation for enhancing energy data, in collaboration with its Member States.

Africa Energy Balance 2025

We are pleased to present the 2025 Energy Balance for African Countries, offering a comprehensive analysis of energy production, transformation, and consumption across the continent. This publication represents a key milestone, illuminating both the opportunities and the challenges facing Africa’s energy sector, and reaffirming our commitment to transparent, inclusive, and sustainable energy governance. Energy is a fundamental pillar of development. It is essential for economic growth, improved living conditions, and social transformation.

Key Africa Energy Statistics 2023

This report highlights several remarkable elements from the updated African Energy Information System (AEIS). Firstly, it underscores the remarkable performance of solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources in Africa's electricity production. Compared to the data from the year 2000, we observe a significant increase in the share of these renewable energy sources in the continent's energy mix. This trend demonstrates Africa's growing commitment to energy transition and the promotion of clean and sustainable energy

Key Africa Energy Statistics - 2019

In this 2019 Key Africa Energy Statistics (KAES) edition, AFREC provides a comprehensive insight on the energy production, supply and consumption in various regions of and the Continent. One of the highlights in this publication is the Total Primary of Energy Supply (TPES) by fuel and by region, indicating significant changes compared to the statistics since the inception of KAES report data in 2000.
