The African Energy Commission (AFREC), a specialised agency of the African Union, successfully convened a Level 1 Training on Methane Emissions Detection and Mitigation in the Oil and Gas Sector for Tanzanian stakeholders in Dar es Salaam from 24–25 February 2026.
This capacity-building initiative marks an important milestone in advancing the decarbonisation of Africa’s energy sector and strengthening technical expertise in methane emissions management across the continent.
The training was delivered in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania and forms part of AFREC’s broader Project on Methane Emissions Management and Capacity Building in the African Oil and Gas Sector. The project aims to enhance institutional and technical capacities of Member States to monitor, report, and mitigate methane emissions in alignment with continental energy transition objectives and global climate commitments.
