The solar energy resources throughout Africa are very rich and highly available. The regions with the most abundant solar energy resources are the Sahara region, the Ethiopian Plateau and the South African Plateau.

The Africa Energy Balance and Indicators is AFREC’s annual energy publication which features interpretation of data and statistics of energy performance from its member states, region and the continent.

This Regional Savings Assessment report provides a summary of the benefits attained from improved energy efficiency and climate friendly lighting, cooling appliances and equipment for the Southern African Region. The assessment is available in English, Portuguese and French. 

Africa is endowed with considerable oil and gas reserves and undeveloped resources that can assist the continent’s economic growth if they are strategically developed.

There is a need to clarify Africa’s position and develop strategies for future supply adequacy, considering current uncertainties about energy supply, the key drivers of future demand, policies of consumer countries (especially alternatives to oil and gas), and expected future global economic growth and technological developments.

This publication is presented to give you a comprehensive energy balance for all African countries. It is the first publication of AFREC on the continent, and brings authentic data from all African Member States. It also brings excitements about emerging insightful, raw and processed statistics on energy supply, transformation and consumption on the continent. A summary of the energy balance and indicators for all fuels are presented herein.

The AFREC Africa Energy Database is a comprehensive collection of statistical data based on production, consumption, imports and exports of energy resources of the African countries. This volume represents the 2019 Edition and largely based on energy data collected by AFREC supplemented with secondary data collected by international database providers mainly IEA to make it for missing or unsupplied data. It contains country, regional and continental aggregation of data and provides a compilation of data that is unique.

In this 2019 Key Africa Energy Statistics (KAES) edition, AFREC provides a comprehensive insight on the energy production, supply and consumption in various regions of and the Continent. One of the highlights in this publication is the Total Primary of Energy Supply (TPES) by fuel and by region, indicating significant changes compared to the statistics since the inception of KAES report data in 2000.
